The HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine is offered to all young people in Year 8, typically aged 12–13. It provides safe, long-lasting protection against the main types of HPV that can lead to cervical cancer, some mouth and throat cancers, cancers of the anus and genital areas, and genital warts.
The school immunisation team will visit schools during the year to offer the vaccine to Year 8 students, with parents and carers asked to complete an online consent form beforehand. Those who miss the session can receive the vaccine through their GP or at local catch-up clinics up to the age of 25.
You can find more details, including consent links and catch-up clinic information, and FAQs, at www.schoolvaccination.uk/hpv-vaccine or via our news section.
